Reborn Dolls

What's The Story?

The craft of Reborning dolls started in the United States in the 1990's - Amy & Candy (Amy's sister) began their journey around 2005.

     But what exactly IS Reborning?

To put it simply, it's the art of making a doll look and feel as real as possible.

Using either a vinyl or silicone sculpt, layers of paint are applied to create depth and skin texture. Each layer is baked in the oven to set the paint. The body and limbs are then weighted with poly pellets, glass beads and fiber fill in just the right places to give it that "floppy baby" feel. Once together, the head and eyelashes are rooted with the finest quality of mohair, one strand at a time.

Candy loves little babies. Growing up in a home where there was always a foster baby or two around, she was able to nurture that natural "mommy" instinct. However, when her own babies began to grow and her mother retired from foster care, the sweet presence of a baby was no longer there... and then she discovered Reborning. She instantly fell in love with the process but doubted her own artistic skills to pull it off.

So, she enlisted in the help of her littlest sister. Amy would mix the paints to create the perfect skin tones and apply each layer, right down to the eyebrow hairs and perfectly manicured cuticles. Then Candy took the reigns and assembled the bodies. In the final step, she spent countless hours painstakingly rooting each strand of hair. The end result is a precious little one that, when held in your arms, feels like the real deal.

Though Amy & Candy enjoyed the process of bringing each one to "life", they have decided to end this part of their creative journey. That means these little ones are in desperate need of homes.
